Safety and Security

“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.”

Psalm 91:2

Franklin Christian Academy is committed to school safety. We have taken a proactive approach to implement a facility-specific “Pre Planned Response Program” in conjunction with the Tennessee Schools Against Violence in Tennessee (SAVE) Act. This creates a more coordinated approach to school safety. Policies were developed with the assistance from Fortified Risk Groups and their agents.

Safety training occurs for staff and students throughout the school year, and school emergency operation plans are regularly reviewed and modified as needed in order to improve procedures. Training drills are conducted on a regular basis that include the following: fire, severe weather (tornado, earthquake) and intruder. All drills are conducted with a preventative focus to be prepared for such emergencies.

Campus Visitors:

All visitors shall enter the Upper School main office. The front office then screens the individual. All guests are required to present a valid, government-issued, photo ID. This is required for entry into all school buildings or offices during normal hours of operation and all
visitors may be subject to a background check. Once you have properly checked in you will receive a nametag/badge that must be worn at all times on school property.

Alerts and Weather Warnings:

FCA Safety and Security Office monitors severe weather watches and warnings and maintains contact with the Williamson County Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service during the threat of severe weather. FCA will alert all parents or guardians of any changes in dismissal or after-school activities due to severe weather warnings.

If the area is placed under a Several Weather, flood or Tornado Warning by the National Weather Service, FCA will use the “Shelter in Place” protocol. Students will remain in the buildings (which is one of the safest shelters in a storm) and may be released when the warning has been lifted. If parents are on campus when a warning is issued, they are encouraged to come into the building where they will be directed to a safe area.

School Emergencies:
  1. Child Reunification: In the event of a critical incident, parents or guardians should wait for a school broadcasted notification before coming to the campus. We understand the desire parents have to pick up their children as soon as possible; however, under certain circumstances, students may have to be moved to an alternate location for parent reunification. Some scenarios may require police intervention and emergency response. By arriving at the school you may hinder FCA DSS and local first responders from resolving the situation at hand.

  2. Student Release During a Critical Incident: Parents need to make certain that anyone authorized to pick up children after a crisis situation has placed their name on the child’s release list at school. Students will not be released to anyone who has not been authorized in writing in advance. This applies to relatives, friends, and/or neighbors. Phone calls will not be accepted. Please take care of these arrangements ahead of time by properly filling out your child’s enrollment form, complete with contacts who are authorized to take your children home from school.
